PP Neighborhood Meeting Minutes
Thursday, July 25, 2024, 5:30 - 6:45 PM
Charlie Joseph Senior Citizen Center 

5:30 -    10 neighbors came and shared dinner together.
5:50 – Roxie opened the meeting and each person shared a hobby or favorite past time:
Past times shared:  Dancing, Reading, Gardening, Packing, and Working with hands. 
6:00 – We read mission and vision statements
6:02 - Minutes from the last meeting (Moved:  Agnes   Seconded: _Mary_    Accepted:  _Yes_ )
6:05 – Community Garden – Committee Report

Water meter was installed 7-9-24 Backflow Update – Scheduled for Aug. 9 We discussed the need to dig a trench for the bib to be placed farther into the garden.

  • Garden Work-Days (Changed to 2nd and 4th Saturdays) Aug 10 and 24 - 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM

  • Name and Logos were shared ad we all signed the thank you notes.

  • Tours - Seniors will tour July the 31st at 9:30 AM. (however this has been postponed.)We have had three other tours. 

  • Zoo Compost – Aug. 1 Thursday, Agnes volunteered to help - From 6:00 AM to 7:30 AM.

  • Collecting berry containers for Sept. 14th Workshop no more labels needed, thanks to a neighbor who gave craft sticks.  Thank you, Jerii.

  • Donations – Deck the Garden! – Slicks - Spread the word! And ask for financial help with our matching grant.

6:15 – Guest Speaker: Councilwoman Ju’Coby Pittman had a family matter that kept her from attending.

6:35 – New Business:

Voting questions were asked and answered by James Eddy.  Bottom line, do your research on who to vote for and please show up to vote!

Town Hall meeting is Thursday Aug. 1st Main Library 6:00PM – District 1 C-6  (Jerii and Roxie will attend)

Hearing for the property on the river – rezoning. TIC.  If interested check their sign on Kenilworth.
Cooling Centers are available at various City of Jacksonville (COJ) facilities, which include:

  • All COJ Public Libraries

  • COJ Community Centers

  • COJ Pools and Splash Pads

Free transportation to Cooling Centers will be provided by the Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) on designated Heat Emergency days. Riders must tell bus drivers that they are traveling to a cooling center to receive free fare. For additional information, including locations and hours: JaxReady.com/Stay Cool Jax,  

6:40 – Old Business:

  • RR crossing has been repaired.

  • Need a volunteer to connect with local High Schools to let them know we can give Community Hours to their students.  How can we register with them so that we are a Community Hour site for them?
