 Charlie Joseph Senior Citizen Center

Thanks to our neighbors, for the combined meal!

  • We enjoyed the food brought by our neighbors.

  • We introduced ourselves and welcomed our special guests: Councilman Gaffney, Dr. Williams his assistant, and Daryl Joseph, Director of Parks and Recreation.

  • We reviewed and confirmed January’s meeting minutes.

  • Councilman Gaffney updated us on his meeting with Mr. Green at the Panama Youth Services (PYS).

    • Councilman and our city with provide the resources for our neighborhood Fish Fry at PYS.

    • We agreed on the date and time:  March 24 at 1:00 PM.  (will confirm with PPYS before we ask you to mark your calendar)

    • Date chosen as right after our next meeting and at end of their Spring Break.

    • Tom McLeod and Councilman Gaffney will work out details with Mr. Green.

    • Neighbors present at the meeting said they wanted to show up and interact with these young men, which, if we keep it up, will make the greatest impact on them.  (this will be the first of many different events to touch their lives).

  • Daryl Joseph was introduced by Councilman Gaffney.  As Director of Parks and Recreations he shared about the city resources for our park.   There are funds to spend on our park.  He will bring back to us a list of the prices for the items we discussed as possibilities:

    • Work out Circuit

    • Upgrade the rusting fencing

    • Clean up the ball park to accommodate football

  • Daryl Joseph also shared that the city has in addition planned $25,000 other improvements:

    • Resurface the parking lot

    • Refurbishing the bathrooms to bring up to ADA compliance

    • Replacing trashcans

    • Adding extra benches.

  • Daryl Joseph is working with Councilman Gaffney to involve neighboring businesses with the cost of more improvements.  They asked us to give suggestions for business you know who might be willing to “adopt” our park.  (eg. Tom and Council man will go together to talk with Shaw’s Southern Belle Frozen Foods)

  • Another possibility for our park for JSO cameras.  This program is based on violent crime rate, but Mr. Joseph is going to see if our park is on that list and Councilman verified wanting us to be put on that list and he will talk to the Sheriff himself.

  • Councilman Gaffney took a poll regarding the city selling JEA.  He made it clear that he heard our desire for the JEA not to be sold.
